2012 NOBCChE West Regional Meeting

It gives us great pleasure to invite you and members of your research team to participate in the 2012 NOBCChE West Regional Meeting which will take place in sunny San Diego, CA! Our Regional Meeting has been gaining more and more participation each year from members and corporations like you. This year we are excited to announce the meeting will be held at the Beckman Center on the campus of The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA, March 23-25, 2012.

Conference Registration

There will be a $100 registration fee for professionals and $55 for students. Registration fees include a Receptions, Coffee Breaks and Luncheons March 23-25, 2012.

What is NOBCChE?

The National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers. The official acronym is NOBCChE (pronounced No-be-shay). NOBCChE was incorporated in 1975 under the laws of the State of Georgia and has tax-exempt status as a non-profit professional society.

There are three classes of membership within the Organization as specified in the Constitution:

A Regular member has all the rights and privileges as outlined in the Constitution. Dues: $100.00/year.

An Associate member may participate in realizing the programs of the Organization, but may not vote or serve as a member of any policy making body within the Organization. Dues: $40.00/year.

A Student member must be enrolled in a full time study at an educational institution. He or she has all the rights and privileges of a member outlined in the By-Laws. They do not have voting rights on the Executive Board, Constitutional changes, or any equivalent policy making body. Dues: $10.00/year.

Welcome to the San Diego Chapter's new website!  Our chapter would like to acknowledge the exceptional and hard work done by Rodel Simpauco on the design and implementation of this website. 

We look forward to keeping local and national NOBCChE members informed of the San Diego Chapter's commitment to advancing our community, assisting our teachers, educating our children, and educating each other about our fields of expertise.

22nd Annual Science Bowl/Science Fair

2012 NOBCChE San Diego Regional Science Bowl and Science Fair for High School and Middle School students
You are invited to compete in NOBCChE San Diego’s 22nd Annual High School (9th–12th grades) or Middle School (6th–8th grades) REGIONAL SCIENCE BOWL AND SCIENCE FAIR competitions scheduled for the San Diego County. The Science Bowl is a Jeopardy-like highly competitive science academic event for teams of either high school or middle school students.

The winning team (5 students and 1 faculty coach) of each regional competition will qualify to compete in the NOBCChE’s annual National Science Bowl and Science Fair in Washington, DC on September 25 – September 28, 2012 and U.S. Department of Energy’s NATIONAL SCIENCE BOWL® on April 26 - april 30, 2012 in Washington, DC. Depending upon available funding, all expenses for travel as well as accommodations and organized activities at the national competitions will be covered. Only those students who competed on the winning regional team are eligible to compete in the National Science Bowl and Science Fair.

The NOBCChE and National Science Bowl® Rules, brochure, information, resources including sample questions, forms for coaches and students, etc., are located online at http://www.nobcche.org and http://science.energy.gov/nsb/, respectively. A format of round robin and modified double elimination will be used in the regional competitions.
